The Delhi Police have written to social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) in connection with a complaint that "derogatory, malicious, and defamatory content" is being circulated online against constitutional heads. The police has instructed the platform to immediately delete or remove the alleged post or video and to provide complete registrant details of the account from which the content was posted, including name, address, contact number, email ID, and login/logout details with time and date stamps.

The police asked the platform to:

- Remove Content: Delete or take down the alleged post or video from the platform immediately.

- Provide Registrant Details: Share complete account details of the profile holder, including name, address, contact number, email ID, and login/logout details with time and date stamps.

- Share Additional Data: Share any other relevant information that may assist in the investigation.

- Preserve Evidence: Preserve all data and records related to the alleged post or video for future investigation.

- Provide Certificate: Provide a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

Delhi Police Directs Social Media Platforms To Remove Abusive Posts Against PM Modi

Earlier on July 27, the Delhi Police directed multiple social media platforms to remove posts and videos containing offensive and abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The content was uploaded during student protests at Jantar Mantar and violence linked to the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' march, news agency ANI reported.

According to the police, several posts using abusive language against the Prime Minister surfaced across various platforms during the protests and subsequent violence in the national capital.

The Delhi Police's social media monitoring team has been continuously scanning online platforms to identify such content. Upon detecting objectionable posts, notices are issued to the respective intermediaries directing their removal. Officials stated that several comments and videos containing abusive language directed at the Prime Minister have already been taken down following these notices.

The cyber and social media teams are maintaining a close watch on online activity related to the protests to identify further offensive posts and ensure appropriate action under applicable rules.
