Delhi Air Pollution: In an effort towards implementing a comprehensive plan to combat pollution during the winter season, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the 'Winter Action Plan' saying pollution levels in the city have declined in the past few years due to government initiatives.

The chief minister instructed the officials to strictly follow the guidelines and ensure the implementation of the 15-point plan in a bid to combat pollution during the winter season. "In the last few years, due to the hard work of the people of Delhi, the level of pollution has reduced significantly. This time Delhi is again ready in this war against pollution and the 'Winter Action Plan' of the Delhi Government is also ready," CM Kejriwal said during the press conference. 

Winter Action Plan: Key Takeaways From Announcement

- The chief minister said the Pusa bio-decomposer that prevents stubble burning will be sprayed on 5,000 hectares of farmland this year. Last year, it sprayed on 4,400 hectares. 

- The Pusa bio-decomposer is a microbial solution that can turn paddy straw into manure in 15-20 days.

- The government will deploy 530 water sprinklers to prevent dust pollution and 385 teams will check vehicles' pollution certificates and prevent the plying of overage cars.

Supreme Court On Diesel, Petrol Vehicles Older Than 10-15 Years

Diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 and 15 years, respectively, were outlawed in Delhi by the Supreme Court in 2018. It also stated that any vehicles operating against the directive will be seized. Vehicles older than 15 years are not allowed to be parked in public areas, according to a National Green Tribunal ruling from 2014.

Meanwhile, the AAP leader said burning garbage in the open is banned in Delhi and 611 teams will monitor its implementation. He also urged people to download the Green Delhi mobile application and report any pollution-causing activity to the government.
