The Red Fort terror blast that killed 13 people in Delhi has triggered a political slugfest with BJP and Congress trading barbs on the issue. The BJP has accused Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram of giving 'cover fire' to terrorists.

Chidambaram, referring to his past remarks in the Parliament in wake of Operation Sindoor, said that he has maintained that there are two kinds of terrorists- foreign and homegrown.

Taking to X, he said, "I have maintained before and after the Pahalgam terror attack that there are two kinds of terrorists — foreign-trained infiltrated terrorists and home-grown terrorists. I said so in Parliament during the debate on Operation Sindoor. I was mocked and trolled for the reference to home-grown terrorists."

He accused the Central government of ignoring the issue despite being aware of it.

Chidambaram further added, The point of this tweet is we should ask ourselves what are the circumstances that turn Indian citizens, even educated persons, into terrorists".

His post drew sharp response from BJP's spokesperson Pradip Bhandari who asked, "Why is the Congress giving soft support and cover fire to terrorists in the Red Fort blast case?"

He outrightly rejected Chidambaram's analysis saying, "A terrorist is a terrorist! No circumstance justifies an act of terror."

Accusing Congress of chosing vote bank over national interest, Bhandari said, "Sonia Gandhi in Batla House to P Chidambaram now, Congress choses vote bank over national interest."
