Delhi News: A retired scientist and his elderly wife were held hostage at gunpoint in Prashant Vihar, Rohini on Friday. The incident took place on October 18 when two men, pretending to be courier boys, entered their home and stole valuables worth Rs 2 Crore.

According to a Delhi Police officer, there are suspicions of insider involvement due to the circumstances surrounding the crime. The police reported that the incident unfolded in F Block of Prashant Vihar, where Shibu Singh, a retired scientist, lives with his wife, Nirmala.

On that Friday afternoon, the couple was at home when the two men entered under the guise of delivering a package. Once inside, they threatened Shibu and Nirmala with a firearm. According to a Mint report, Shibu was assaulted when he attempted to resist the attackers. The assailants subsequently fled with cash and jewellery valued at Rs 2 crore.

After the incident, Shibu Singh reached out to his son, who resides separately in Delhi. The son made a PCR call around 2:30 pm to notify the authorities about the robbery. A police team arrived promptly at the scene to gather evidence.

Both victims were taken to a hospital for medical examination following the traumatic event. In response to the robbery, over six police teams have been assigned to track down the suspects. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area and have been interviewing neighbours as well as other family members to gather more information.

The police have reiterated their concerns about the possibility of an insider being involved in the crime. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying the absconding suspects. “The CCTV footage has been collected and statements of neighbours and other family members have been recorded. Further investigation is on,” a police spokesperson stated.
