Over 415 km of dilapidated roads across Delhi are likely to be transformed as the Rekha Gupta-led UT government has requested the Centre to release Rs 950 crore for construction of stretches having potholes and broken layers for the last few years.
A government official, cited by Jagran.com, said the previous AAP government never took advantage of schemes like the Central Road Fund and now the new government has sought monetary aid under this to repair roads in Delhi. He said that since the formation of the new government in Delhi, 150 km of roads have been repaired and work was going on on about 100 km of roads.
This financial year, the government is aiming to repair at least 500 km long roads. The roads that have been included in the proposal include Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mathura Road, Mahipalpur-Gurugram Road, Mehrauli Badarpur Road, Najafgarh Dhansa Road and Najafgarh Kakraula Road.
Along with road repair, construction of footpaths and drains for pedestrians will also be done under the same project. The construction work will be done through e-tendering and the target is to complete the work by 2026. The Delhi government hopes to get financial support from the Center, due to which the work will be done at a faster pace.
