Jagran Correspondent, Delhi: In a major move to improve traffic flow, the Delhi government has prepared a plan to construct two new flyovers in northeast and west Delhi to reduce congestion in the national capital.
A feasibility study for both projects will be conducted soon. For this purpose, the Public Works Department (PWD) has started the process of appointing private consultants.
Where Will the Flyovers Be Built?
The first flyover, approximately five kilometres long, has been proposed over the Karawal Nagar drain in northeast Delhi. It will connect Ankur Enclave with Gokulpuri Metro Station.
The second project, also around five kilometres long, is an elevated corridor proposed on Guru Harkishan Road. It will stretch from Britannia Chowk to Shakur Basti Railway Station and further extend up to the Outer Ring Road.
According to Jagran.com, the feasibility study will include a detailed survey of nearby buildings, encroachments, trees, road signs, and other permanent structures along the proposed routes.
The assessment will also cover utility networks such as electricity lines, water pipelines, gas pipelines, and other essential service connections.
Parking and Railway Crossings to Be Assessed
The study will examine the existing parking arrangements along these routes, along with the timings of railway gates opening and closing.
Based on the feasibility report, a detailed project proposal will be prepared and submitted to the concerned authorities for approval.
According to PWD officials, a tender has been issued for appointing private consultants at an estimated cost of around Rs 3 crore to carry out the study.
The selected consultant will prepare the layout designs for the proposed flyovers and underpasses. The plan will include details of the main carriageway, footpaths, service roads, lanes for non-motorised vehicles, central verges, bus stops, and other public facilities.
During the study, officials will also assess the total number of vehicles using these routes and analyse traffic volume during peak hours to determine the expected impact of the projects.
