Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: Jaipur is now just a 3-hour drive from Delhi, thanks to the newly completed Bandikui Spur on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the 67-km stretch is ready and open for trial traffic, cutting down travel time between the two cities by nearly an hour.

Sharing the update on X, Gadkari said, “We have successfully completed the 66.916 km long, 4-lane Greenfield Bandikui Spur, constructed at a capital cost of Rs 2,016 crore. This strategically significant project provides direct, access-controlled connectivity between the Delhi – Vadodara Expressway and Jaipur – addressing the lack of a direct route that previously compelled commuters to take longer, fuel-intensive journeys." The new spur reduces the Delhi-Jaipur travel time from 3 hours 45 minutes to approximately 3 hours, boosting road efficiency and commuter convenience.

The four-lane access-controlled road directly connects Bandikui with Jaipur and is expected to benefit not only daily travellers but also cargo transport. Freight movement could see a time reduction of 20 to 30 per cent, making logistics faster and more cost-effective.

Before this spur, while the Sohna-Dausa section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway had already brought some relief, the final leg of the journey into Jaipur remained a bottleneck. Travellers had to exit the expressway at the Bhandaraj toll plaza in Dausa and continue on the often congested Jaipur-Agra highway (NH 44), adding delays.

Now, the Bandikui Spur offers a seamless alternative route that bypasses these congested corridors. It’s expected to decongest major highways like NH 48, NH 44, and NH 21, according to a Ministry official who told News18, “This access-controlled road will connect Delhi, Gurugram and Jaipur and ease traffic on the congested NH 44.”

Previously, the journey from Dausa to Jaipur alone could take 1.5 to 2 hours. Combined with the 2.5-hour drive on the Sohna-Dausa stretch, the total trip was longer and less fuel-efficient. The newly opened spur is expected to save fuel, cut emissions, and reduce logistics costs by up to 30 per cent, the official added.

With formal inauguration awaited, the Bandikui Spur marks a major step in improving North India’s road infrastructure, promising both time and energy savings for commuters and commercial operators alike.
