In a major update, Mussoorie is likely to get connected to Delhi through a direct elevated road, making it more accessible for tourists and those who travel to Delhi for other purposes, as per a report by The New Indian Express.
The upcoming elevated road will be on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and will reduce the traffic strain on it while providing direct connectivity to the 'Queen of the Hills.'
The elevated road will also ease traffic congestion in Dehradun, marking an improvement for the local residents of the Uttarakhand capital.
2,614 houses to be demolished
For the elevated road project, 2,614 houses will be demolished along the banks of the Rispana and Bindal rivers. The government will also acquire land at 26 locations to build a 26 km elevated road between Dehradun and Mussoorie.
The TNIE quoted the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari saying, "Land acquisition will be carried out in 26 localities to build the 26 km long elevated road in Dehradun. Land will be acquired by demolishing 2,614 houses built along the banks of the Rispana and Bindal rivers."
Delhi To Mussoorie in 4 hours
Officials associated with the elevated road said that the project will reduce the travel time between the national capital and the prominent tourist destination in Uttarakhand to 4 hours. Once the project becomes operational, tourists traveling from Delhi to Mussoorie will be able to reach their destination in just four hours by their own vehicle," they added.
The elevated road project will cost around Rs 6,100 crore. The land owners, whose property will be acquired for the project, will get compensation. Reportedly, the state government has not considered for providing land-for-land compensation so far.
The district administration has started making preparation for the project. The work will finally start after the approval by the government
