The Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Delhi’s new chief minister at Ram Leela Ground on Thursday, February 20. The event is expected to witness the presence of several VVIPs and VIPs, along with a large public gathering, prompting authorities to implement traffic diversions and restrictions.

Delhi Traffic Diversions On Feb 20

To manage traffic during the ceremony, restrictions will be enforced from 7 am to 4 pm on key roads, including:

  • Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (from ITO to Delhi Gate)

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (from Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk)

  • Aruna Asaf Ali Road

  • Minto Road (from roundabout Kamla Market to Hamdard Chowk)

  • Ranjeet Singh Flyover to Turkman Gate

  • Ajmeri Gate to roundabout Kamla Market

Additionally, diversions will be in place at multiple locations such as Subhash Park T-point, Raj Ghat, Delhi Gate, ITO, Ajmeri Gate, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Bhavbhuti Marg - Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg red light, and roundabout Jhandewalan.

Commuters have been advised to use public transport to minimise congestion and park only in designated areas. The police have urged people to avoid roadside parking and report any suspicious objects or activities. Those travelling to New Delhi Railway Station should use the Paharganj side and avoid the Ajmeri Gate route.

Traffic Restrictions In Chandni Chowk

In a separate advisory, Delhi Police has imposed a 12-hour traffic restriction on Chandni Chowk Road from Red Fort to Fatehpuri. The stretch has been designated as a non-motorized vehicle (NMV) zone from 9 am to 9 pm by the Delhi Transport Department.

Boom barriers have been installed on all access roads leading to Chandni Chowk to enforce the restriction. However, exemptions have been granted for fire tenders, ambulances, hearse vans, vehicles carrying pregnant women or patients, enforcement vehicles, and maintenance vehicles of government agencies. These vehicles can access the area through HC Sen Marg and Khari Baoli.
