The Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory ahead of the state funeral of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at Nigambodh Ghat. Commuters are advised to avoid certain routes and use public transport to avoid traffic congestion.

"The dignitaries of many of foreign countries and other VIPs/VVIPS and the general public will visit Nigambodh Ghat on the occasion of the state funeral of late Dr Manmohan Singh, Former PM of India on 28.12.2024," Delhi Traffic Police said in an advisory issued on Friday.

Delhi Traffic Restrictions Today

Traffic restrictions and diversions will be in effect on several key roads in New Delhi from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. The affected roads include:

  • Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg)

  • Nishad Raj Marg

  • Boulevard Road

  • SPM Marg

  • Lothian Road

  • Netaji Subhash Marg

Diversion Points

The following diversion points will be operational to manage the traffic flow:

  • Raja Ram Kohli Marg

  • Rajghat Red Light

  • Signature Bridge

  • Yudhister Setu

Those travelling to key destinations such as Old Delhi Railway Station, ISBT, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk or Tis Hazari Court should plan their journeys and leave early to account for potential traffic delays.

Commuters are advised to use public transport wherever possible to avoid delays and congestion. Additionally, vehicles should only be parked in designated parking areas, as roadside parking obstructs the smooth traffic flow and contributes to congestion, Delhi Traffic Police stated in the advisory.

Dr Manmohan Singh's Funeral

The state funeral will take place at 11:45 am on Saturday at Nigambodh Ghat. Dr Manmohan Singh passed away on December 26 at AIIMS Delhi, at the age of 92, due to age-related medical conditions. The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced full military honours for the ceremony.

Dr Manmohan Singh, a respected economist and leader, served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was instrumental in steering the nation through economic reforms and crises.
