The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday razed illegal portions of a house linked to one of the accused in the killing of Tarun in Uttam Nagar Holi clash case.

During the demolition drive, heavy police and paramilitary was deployed to maintain law and order in the area. The Uttam Nagar area has been divided in zones, sectors and sub-sectors, a senior police officer said.

News agency PTI reported, citing sources, that civic authorities reached the locality with bulldozers and demolished "only the illegally constructed parts" of the structure and not the entire house.

The MCD officials said that the action was guided to remove encroachment built upon the drains. "Since the monsoon is approaching, we are removing illegal construction built upon the drains in the area as they disturb the water flow. The structure was built on the drain," a senior official from the MCD west zone said.

The move came after the family of the 26-year-old deceased demanded the 'Yogi Adityanath Model' of bulldozer action against the accused.

Maan Singh, the victim's relative, had called for justice, saying, "We want the Yogi (Uttar Pradesh chief minister) bulldozer model to be used. Their unauthorised houses should be demolished and all illegal extensions removed."

Besides, the Delhi Police, under the ongoing investigation, have added provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and murder charges have been added to the FIR.

So far, eight people have been arrested in the case. Some of the accused have been identified as Umardeen (49), Jummadeen (36), Kamruddin (36), Mustaque (46), Muzzafar (25), Tahir (18) and a minor.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh said, "In continuation of the arrests earlier made in the case, the eighth accused - Imran aka Bunty, aged 38 years, has also been arrested. Also, as per the statements of deceased Tarun's family, stringent provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act have been invoked."

Tarun was killed in a clash that started between his family and their neighbours in the JJ Colony area after a 6-year-old girl dropped a water balloon from her terrace, which hit a Muslim woman on March 4 (Holi).

The two families had previously got into rows over parking and garbage disposal and had known each other for the past five decades, the police said.
