Delhi Heatwave: Delhi-NCR and several other parts of north India have been continuously telling under the scorching heat. According to the weather department, the capital city will experience a heatwave during the day. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 44 and 32 degrees Celsius, respectively. Senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar stated that the mercury is expected to rise by two to three degrees over the next five days.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 43.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average, and remained in the 'Yellow' alert zone, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). There is a very high risk of heat-related illnesses and heat stroke for people of all ages. This poses a serious health concern, particularly for vulnerable groups like infants, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions, the weather office said.

"Avoid heat exposure and keep cool. Avoid dehydration," the IMD advised, adding that people should drink sufficient water and use ORS or homemade drinks like lassi, Torani (rice water), lemon water and buttermilk to stay hydrated. According to the IMD, the city will be on orange alert on Thursday.

Delhi Weather For Next 5 Days

The weather office has issued a red alert from Thursday to Saturday, advising "extreme care for vulnerable people" due to the intense heatwave. Delhi is expected to see maximum and minimum temperatures around 46 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively. A heatwave is officially recognised when the maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius in the plains, 37 degrees in coastal areas, and 30 degrees in hilly regions.

Delhi is expected to face severe heatwave conditions on Saturday, the same day millions of voters will go to the polls for the seven Lok Sabha seats. According to IMD, the maximum temperature will hover around 46 degrees Celsius and minimum mercury will be at 32 degrees.
