Delhi Weather: Capital Sizzles As Temperature Crosses 42 Degrees; IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Heatwave From April 24

Delhi Weather Today: The national capital reeled under scorching heat on Wednesday as the maximum temperature surged past 42 degrees Celsius at several weather stations. According to the state-wise data, the Ridge station recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius, 3.7 degrees above normal, while Safdarjung, the city's base station, recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius.

Relief is unlikely as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave starting April 24. Temperatures are expected to rise further, likely touching the 43-44 degrees Celsius mark in the coming days. Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution to avoid inconvenience.

Delhi Weather: What Station-Wise Data Shows?

The national capital on Wednesday recorded a significant spike in temperatures. According to the station-wise data, the Ridge station recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius, 3.7 degrees above normal. Ayanagar followed closely at 41.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while Safdarjung, the city's base station, recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. Lodi Road logged 40.8 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degrees above normal, and Palam recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal.

On the minimum front, Palam recorded the highest minimum temperature at 24.6 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees above normal, followed closely by Ayanagar at 23.5 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal. Ridge recorded 23.4 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees above normal. Safdarjung registered a minimum of 21.6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees below normal, while Lodi Road recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees below normal.

What's Ahead?

The national capital is expected to witness mainly clear skies on April 23. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will settle at 24 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave conditions are expected to set in from April 24. Temperatures are expected to rise further, likely touching the 43-44 degrees Celsius mark over the weekend.
