Delhi Weather Update: Delhi's base station, Safdarjung, recorded the city's lowest minimum temperature of the season on Thursday, 8.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below average. The temperature was 3.5 degrees below Wednesday's minimum temperature.
The minimum temperature was predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to drop to 7 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday. However, after a western disturbance affects the western Himalayan region, it can experience a slight increase once more. On December 8, there's a chance of a drizzle or very light rain.
The minimum temperature in several areas of Delhi was lower than in Safdarjung. At Ayanagar, the lowest minimum temperature on Thursday was 7.2 degrees Celsius, while at Lodhi Road, it was 8 degrees.
Before Thursday, the lowest minimum temperature this season at Safdarjung was 9.5 degrees Celsius on November 29.
RK Jenamani, a senior scientist at IMD, said, "Strong winds have been blowing in the city since Wednesday afternoon. The winds reached up to 20 kmph on Thursday. It was the first time since Diwali when such high wind speed has been recorded. Due to the constituent strong north-westerly winds and clear skies, the minimum temperature dipped on Thursday."
When the skies are clear, days are warm and nights are cool due to radiational cooling. A clear sky allows heat to evaporate quickly, making nights cooler than usual. The city also had low humidity on Thursday.
