Delhi Weather Updates:  The woes of Delhi residents are going to linger as the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued another orange alert for very cold conditions for two more days - Wednesday and Thursday. The weather watchdog also issued an alert for severe fog in the region. Along with Delhi, an alert was also issued for the states of Haryana and Punjab for Thursday. These two states were already reeling under the dense fog for the last few days.

"Fog is very likely to become more dense and likely to extend over remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and some more parts of north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh during the night," read the India Meteorological Department statement.

The advisory released for the states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh also said that the visibility of these places might be impacted. The impact of dense fog is also likely in some airports, highways and railway routes.

Minimum Temperature Hit 3.5 Degrees In Delhi

Delhi logged another extremely cold day, marred with dense fog on Tuesday as the minimum temperature hit 3.5 degrees Celsius, a shift of almost 4 degrees from the normal temperature. The visibility at some places such as Palam hit zero.

Flights are delayed, and trains running late

As the national capital woke to freezing weather on Tuesday, around 30 flights departing from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were delayed and 17 were cancelled due to weather conditions, airport officials said. Meanwhile, 30 trains were also delayed due to the low visibility caused by fog.

Northern states enveloped by fog

In its daily bulletin, the IMD said that minimum temperatures are in the range of 2-5 degrees Celsius over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, in the range of 6-10 degrees Celsius over many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand.

"These are below normal by 1 to 4 degrees Celsius over many parts of Northwest and adjoining East India," said the IMD. The IMD said that 'jet stream winds' of the order of 140-150 knots are prevailing over the plains of North India and it is likely to cause light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Wednesday."
