Delhi Weather Update: According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi residents are not likely to get instant relief from heat, as there is no alert for heavy rain in the national capital over the next few days. However, IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rain in Delhi on Friday. Delhiites woke up to cloudy weather conditions with high humidity recorded at 75 per cent at 8.30 am. Monsoon arrived in Delhi on June 29, nine days ahead of its normal date, however, the city is yet to witness heavy showers.

According to the weather body, Delhi-NCR will witness light to moderate rain till July 8. While the rain in the upcoming days will provide relief from heat, it is also likely to lead to issues like waterlogging and power cuts.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius while the maximum is expected to settle around 37 degrees Celsius, according to the weather body.

Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the satisfactory category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 72, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 to 100 "satisfactory", 101 to 200 "moderate", 201 to 300 "poor", 301 to 400 "very poor", and 401 to 500 "severe".

Monsoon Update

Several North India states, including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Bihar, are likely to witness light to heavy rain in the upcoming days. The weather department stated that several regions of Uttarakhand, including Nainital, Pauri, and Tehri, are likely to receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms till July 5.

The IMD stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala are likely to receive light to heavy rain in the upcoming days. The weather department stated that along with rainfall, these districts will also receive thunderstorms and gusty winds till July 8.
