Dharamshala News: A 27-year-old tourist from Gujarat died on Monday after a paragliding mishap near Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. The accident took place on Sunday shortly after take-off from the Indru Nag Paragliding Site, a popular spot located on the city’s outskirts.

The tourist, identified as Satish, was on a tandem flight with pilot Suraj when the paraglider lost control and crashed within a short distance of take-off. A video of the incident has surfaced online. While Satish suffered serious injuries, Suraj is undergoing treatment.

Satish was initially taken to Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala and later referred to Tanda Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday. According to Kangra Additional SP Hitesh Lakhanpal, the deceased’s family has been informed and the body will be handed over after the post-mortem examination.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and officials from the tourism department have also been asked to look into the matter.

This is not the first fatal paragliding accident in the region. In January this year, another tourist from Gujarat, Bhavsar Khushi, lost her life during a tandem flight. Two more deaths occurred that same month in separate paragliding crashes.

As per official data, more than 12 people have died in paragliding accidents across Himachal Pradesh in the last 30 months. While many of these deaths involved free fliers entering risky terrains without proper training or awareness of wind and weather conditions, recent incidents have raised questions about the safety of tandem flights conducted by licensed operators.
