Ahead of the much-hyped music concert of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Sunday, the members of Bajrang Dal staged a massive protest on Saturday, stating that the group opposed the idea of serving meat and liquor at the music concert. The Bajrang Dal said that such events ruin the purity of the city and have a bad influence on the residents.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) member Yash Bachani said that the protest was against the event, and the organisation wanted to make sure that enough arrangements were made for the women's safety. Amid chants of "Jai Shree Ram" and "Desh ka dal, Bajrang dal", the members of the organisation emphasised that the protest on Saturday was only the trailer and they would show the whole film before the event, if needed.
“Bajrang Dal got information about a concert happening in the city where there would be open liquor and meat would be served. We have come here to inspect the same and to ensure whether there are arrangements being made for women's safety by the police administration. We are also alert about any Love Jihad incident happening here. We oppose the open liquor and serving of meat to protect the culture in the city. Bajrang Dal can come out on the streets to protest against the concert tomorrow. We will let you know about our decision,” Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) member Yash Bachani was quoted as saying by ANI.
However, the police have acknowledged the gravity of the situation and have assured that the safety of women during the concert will be the priority. “Indore police consider the matter of law and order situation, women's security, and drug abuse seriously. We have not permitted serving alcohol and its consumption in the open here. We are taking everything into cognizance,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Zone 2, Amrendra Singh, was quoted as saying by ANI.
Diljit Dosanjh had to face a similar situation in Pune when the state excise department revoked the permit to serve liquor at the last moment following strong objections.
