Karnataka News: Amid a tussle for the chief minister post in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday hinted that he might quit the Congress state chief post. While speaking at an event in Bengaluru, the deputy chief minister pointed out that no one can hold the post permanently; however, Shivakumar asserted that he will remain in the front line. Shivakumar further stated that he wanted to build at least 100 Congress offices in the state, adding that he was asked to continue in the post by the party high command. His remarks came amid demands of a cabinet reshuffle and leadership change from several party leaders in the state.

"I cannot hold the post permanently...it has already been five-and-a-half years and in March it will be six," Shivakumar stated while addressing the event. "It is a different matter - will I remain President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, but in my tenure I want 100 Congress offices opened in the state. I wanted to relinquish this responsibility when I took over as Deputy Chief Minister...but Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge asked me to continue. So, I did my duty," the deputy chief minister added.

Shivakumar's remarks came amid a demand for leadership change from his supporters, urging the central leadership to fulfill the alleged promise of power transfer to the deputy chief minister. Earlier in July, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted that he will complete his full tenure of five years. While reacting to the speculations, Shivakumar stated that the final decision on the issue will be taken by the central high command.

The Congress registered a victory in the Karnataka 2023 Assembly election; however, the party was left in splits as both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah claimed the CM post. While Congress made Siddaramaiah the chief minister, the party asked Shivakumar to have "patience".
