  1. Wangchuk disapproves abusive language, urges government to understand frustration.
  2. Government should address youth anger, not just punish protesters.
  3. Supports genuine movements for education and environmental causes.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, referring to videos of abusive language used against political leaders during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests at Jantar Mantar, stated that he does not approve of such language. However, he urged the government to focus on the frustration behind these outbursts rather than punishing the protesters.

In an interview with India Today, Wangchuk said, "I do not approve of abusive language at all. But for the government, it's more a signal of how frustrated our youth have become."

He added that if he had been in the place of the Prime Minister, he would question himself first and not take action against students. "If I were in the place of the Prime Minister, I would first tell myself how bad I've been to invoke so much anger in them," Wangchuk said.

'Take The Message, Don't Kill The Messenger'

Continuing his point, Wangchuk said: "This is a sign of how bad the situation has become. As I always say, take the message, don't kill the messenger. FIRs and harassment are a very low-level response."

He urged looking within, introspecting, and reforming the system so that no one becomes desperate enough to use such language. He emphasised that a good leader should approach the issue with this mindset.

However, Wangchuk added that mischievous elements, professional pranksters, or history-sheeters who infiltrate student groups should not be tolerated, and strict action should be taken against them. At the same time, he said that ordinary students and entire movements should not be dismissed based on the language used.

A zero FIR was filed against a 15-year-old girl for hurling abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the CJP protest, which was later withdrawn. The complainant stated that the girl had apologised and Prime Minister Modi had forgiven her.

What Wangchuk Said On Jharkhand Protest?

Speaking on the ongoing protests in Jharkhand over alleged examination irregularities, Wangchuk told India Today that he does not wish to be the face or mascot of every student protest, but will continue genuine movements.

"I just want everybody to be their own heroes in their own places," Wangchuk said when asked if he planned to travel to Jharkhand to join the protesters.

Wangchuk stated, "Education and environment are two subjects very close to my heart... I would like to support any place that is raising a just voice for these two subjects." He added that people raising their voices is a sign of a healthy democracy.

Wangchuk, sharing a post on his social media account, clarified that the fast of student leader Devendra Nath Mahato has been continuing continuously and firmly for the last several days.

He appealed to youth across the country and state to ignore any rumors being spread to undermine the movement. The government should seriously consider these legitimate and logical demands of the students as soon as possible.
