15th August Dry Day: All liquor shops and other establishments serving alcoholic beverages will remain closed across major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata on 78th Independence Day. The country will observe a dry day on August 15, prohibiting the sale of alcohol. This restriction will be enforced in all bars, restaurants, and liquor shops, where the sale of alcohol will be completely banned.
The nationwide dry day on August 15 prohibits the sale of alcohol, a customary practice during national holidays, including Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti. The prohibition applies to all bars and restaurants, which will not be allowed to serve alcohol. The closure is part of a broader effort to encourage citizens to honour the significance of the day with sobriety and respect.
However, the prohibition does not extend to duty-free shops and certain hotels, restaurants, bars and special events with prior permission from the relevant authorities may still serve alcohol.
