Durgapur Gangrape Case: Amid an ongoing row over West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's controversial remarks over the Durgapur gangrape case, another Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader has advised the women to stay cautious to avoid such incidents, escalating another row. TMC MP Saugata Roy, while talking about the case, stated that the women should not go out at night, claiming that the police cannot provide security "at every inch". The TMC leader further stated that the police can take action only when any incident has unfolded, further urging the women to stay cautious.

Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister Banerjee allegedly stated that the women should avoid going out at night hours to ensure safety, drawing massive criticism from the opposition parties, especially the BJP. The remarks from the TMC leader came just two days after the infamous incident in Durgapur where a MBBS student was raped by a group of men on Friday night.

"The security cannot be provided at every inch. Police cannot be deployed on every road. Police can take action once the incident has unfolded...So, women should also be cautious," he added. Earlier on Sunday, Mamata Banerjee stated that the colleges should impose a time-table for the girls students to ensure their safety, adding that investigation is ongoing to provide justice to the victim.
