TAJIKISTAN was hit by a 4.3 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, the National Center for Seismology informed.

The NCS tweeted: “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 28-02-2023, 05:31:54 IST, Lat: 38.20 & Long: 73.85, Depth: 10.0 Km ,Location: Tajikistan for more information Download the BhooKamp App”.

Last week, a strong earthquake of 7.2 magnitude had hit the nation. The tremors of that quake were felt in the neighbouring country of China as well. The epicenter of this earthquake was less than a hundred kilometers from Tajikistan's border with China in Gorno-Badakshan, The Independent reported.

Video of the previous earthquake shaking buildings in the region have been doing the rounds on social media. The video shows clearly the panic that was induced as result of the massive shock. No casualities have been reported so far. 

Tajikistan is a landlocked country (meaning it covered with other countries from all sides having no access to a large waterbody like sea) which is very prone to natural disasters. According to the United States Geological Survey, the region where the earthquakes have hit is sparsely populated and therefore "little or no population" would be affectd by landslides as a result of the quake. However, just in February this year, as many as nine people have lost their lives when an avalanche occurred in the Gorno-Badakshan region. Another person had killed in an avalanche near the nation's capital Dushanbe.
