SIR Bihar Row: The Election Commission of India reacted to protests against it over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in election-bound Bihar, asking isn't the authentic voter list, being prepared by the poll body through a transparent process, the foundation stone for fair elections and a strong democracy. It also asked should the Election Commission allow fake dead voters.
Fearing these things (Criticism), should the Election Commission, getting misled by some people, pave the way for some to cast fake votes in the name of deceased voters, the poll body questioned.
"The Constitution of India is the mother of Indian democracy. So, fearing these things, should the Election Commission, getting misled by some people, pave the way for some to cast fake votes in the name of deceased voters," it said in response to the ongoing protest by the Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Ruckus In Bihar Assembly And Parliament Over SIR
Both Houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and Bihar Assembly witnessed noisy scenes and disruptions for consecutive days of the Monsoon session on Thursday as Opposition members continued protesting against the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Waving placards and raising slogans, opposition members stormed into the Well of the House during Question Hour, leading to the adjournment of the proceedings till 12 noon. The Opposition members raised slogans like "SIR wapas lo (Roll back SIR)".
Speaker Om Birla said the protesting MPs were behaving as if they were on the streets and warned that he would be forced to take "decisive" action against them.
On the other hand, Tejashwi Yadav opened the front against the Nitish government in the state. He also threatened that the INDIA bloc may consider the boycott of the election, saying the EC should extend the NDA government's tenure without polls.
