The Election Commission (EC) is reportedly considering to extend the deadline of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The poll body is likely to take a final decision on Thursday after reviewing the progress of the enumeration form digitisation and submission. The EC has already extended the deadline of the revision process in Kerala from December 11 to 18. The deadline is expected to be extended amid ongoing criticism from the opposition parties, citing overburden on the Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

The officials stated that the deadline is likely to be extended in the states where the election is not scheduled for 2026, reported Jagran.Com. The deadline for filing and submitting counting forms in all states except Kerala is December 11. The poll body has asked its officials of all the 12 states and union territories involved in the second phase of SIR to talk to coordinate with the district presidents of political parties. It also advised the parties to stay updated and inform changes on time to avoid confusion.

It further asked the officials to submit all the lists by December 31 to plan the schedule for the upcoming assembly election.
