Rath's mortal remains reached his residence in Madhyamagram today. Adhikari was present there. According to a report by news agency PTI, citing sources, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar asked Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay to show majority numbers and submit a list of supporting MLAs during the second round of discussions held in Chennai on Thursday.

CPI Tamil Nadu Secretary Veerapandian and VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Thursday said that they will decide on extending support to Vijay's TVK. 

The Tamil Nadu Congress on Thursday took a dig at Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for his refusal to allow TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) chief Vijay to form the government.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Congress wrote, "Governments are not decided on the lawns of Lok Bhavan. They are decided on the floor of the House."

On BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's aide's murder, TMC MP Saugata Roy said, "We demand the strongest possible action in the matter, including a court-monitored CBI investigation, so that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay. Violence and political killings have no place in a democracy, and the guilty must be held accountable."

TVK chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Rajendra Arlekar for the second time in two days to convince him that he has the numbers to form the new government. However, the governor declined Vijay's government formation bid and asked him to prove the 118-mark.

TVK's Vijay is likely to go to the Pattinambakkam office on Thursday after meeting the Tamil Nadu governor.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday downplayed allegations of widespread post-poll violence in West Bengal, saying that only around 50-60 complaints had been received.

Senior DMK leader TR Baalu on Wednesday alleged that the Congress has “betrayed” voters after it extended support to TVK in Tamil Nadu and ended its alliance with the DMK. Baalu said the Congress had disappointed people who voted expecting a DMK-led government in the state. 

The Election Commission has notified the names of members elected from all Assembly constituencies along with their party affiliations, except for the 144-Falta Assembly constituency.

DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said that TVK chief Vijay does not currently have the required numbers to form the government. He said that even after Congress extended support, the TVK tally stands at around 112 MLAs, and the party still needs additional support to reach the majority mark. 

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that the people of Tamil Nadu have given Vijay an opportunity to form the government. However, he added that the VCK will hold discussions with its frontline leaders within the next one or two days before making any decision on the request from the TVK leadership.

A consultative meeting of the AIADMK MLAs elected to the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly was held on May 6vunder the leadership of General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur and secured Nandigram for a third term in the recent assembly polls, on Wednesday said he would vacate one of the two seats within 10 days.

"I will vacate one seat within 10 days. The party will decide which one I retain. I will not forget my responsibility towards the people of Bhabanipur and Nandigram," Adhikari said.

Ahead of the new government formation in West Bengal, all retired bureaucrats previously appointed by outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been barred from their offices.

Congress has announced its decision to extend support to Vijay's TVK. "Our support shall be conditional upon the TVK keeping out of this alliance any communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India," the party said.

According to a report by news agency ANI, police personnel and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were attacked while investigating previous violence in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali.

Speaking to ANI, Inspector General of Police (Barasat Range) Amit P Javalgi said, "This is the Najat police station area. In a place called Bamanberi within the Sarberia Gram Panchayat, some houses were attacked yesterday. Police arrived here to investigate along with CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) personnel, and they were attacked. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nazat was shot in the leg, some CAPF jawans sustained minor injuries, and a lady constable was also injured. They were immediately sent to the hospital."

According to a report by the news agency ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit on Thursday, May 7. He will chair a key meeting with senior BJP leaders and core committee members.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Caretaker CM of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, "There is an indication that oath-taking will be post May 11 because we have invited the Prime Minister to kindly grace the swearing-in ceremony of our government this time."

He further said, "The ECI has officially announced the assembly election result, and the ECI has submitted the notification of the result to the Governor of Assam. I submitted my resignation letter as the Chief Minister of Assam to the Governor of Assam, and simultaneously, I requested him to dissolve the current Assam assembly. The Governor of Assam has accepted my resignation letter and suggestion of dissolving the current Assam assembly, and he directed the Assam ministry to continue as the caretaker council of ministers till the formation of a new government. I think that the new government will be formed soon. During this time, we will work as a caretaker government."

Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has reached out to the AIADMK for support. The TVK is just 10 seats short of forming a government.
