Two doctors died while three others sustained injuries after their car plunged into the Periyar River at Gothuruth near Kochi on Saturday. According to police, the accident occurred around 12.30 am when the driver followed the directions of Google Maps and failed to see the river due to heavy rain and low visibility. 

The deceased were identified as Advaith (29) and Ajmal (29), both worked as medical professionals in Kerala’s Ernakulam district. Three other people who were in the same vehicle suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.  

They were seen by the locals who rushed to the spot to rescue them and informed the fire service personnel and police about the incident. The condition of the injured is said to be stable.

In another incident, eight people died while several others were seriously injured after a bus fell into a gorge near Tamil Nadu's Marapalam district on Saturday evening. Police said the incident occurred when the bus was on its way from Ooty to Mettupalayam in the Coimbatore district of the southern state. 

As many as 55 tourists were travelling in the bus when the accident took place. The injured were sent to the Coonoor government hospital for treatment while police have initiated an investigation to find the exact reason behind the incident.
