Politics and political leaders are no longer untouched in the era of deepfakes, edited and AI-manipulated videos and photos. In one such AI tantrum, a video generated through artificial intelligence has surfaced on social media and has been going viral. The AI-generated voice clone of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is heard swearing in as the Prime Minister of India. Amid the ongoing Lok Saba Election 2024, such a video can be the root cause of misinformation and is also misleading content for the users of the web.

Some Congress supporters even shared the AI-generated video which comes along with Gandhi's video clippings and also a view of the Red Fort.

One user even shared the video with the caption: "The day is soon… on June 4… The Prime Minister will be Rahul Gandhi." Here, June 4 is in reference to the day for the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha Election 2024, when the results for the 18th Lok Sabha are expected to be announced.

A BOOM report found out that the technique used to create the video was a "very cheap AI clone mixed with loud BG (background) music". The audio clip was first run through Itisaar, a deepfake analysis tool built by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, which confirmed that it was AI-manipulated.

Next, it was tested through another tool contrails.ai which further confirmed that the audio clip had been generated through artificial intelligence.

The Election Commission of India has been warning against the spread of deepfakes and misinformation as the country votes to elect a new government to power, even with the advisories in line, several AI-generated audio/video clips keep doing rounds on social media platforms.
