Fact Check: Asaduddin Owaisi's Deepfake Video Goes Viral; He Did Not Claim Indian Muslims Would Support Pakistan

A 35-second video of Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM MP from Hyderabad, is circulating on social media. In this clip, he is purportedly seen addressing PM Narendra Modi, claiming that if Muslims continue to be attacked in India, they will support Pakistan. Several social media users are sharing this video, believing it to be authentic.

Vishwas News conducted a detailed investigation into the video and found that it is fake. It has been created by manipulating a few seconds of a clip from Owaisi’s original speech using Deepfake technology.

What is going viral?

The Facebook page 'Kashmiri Association of Australia' (archived version) uploaded the video on January 7, with the caption, "Asaduddin Owaisi delivers a blistering message to Modi. When you felt pain after Pakistan hit back, did you finally understand what an Indian Muslim feels when your extremists beat him every day? Stop oppression. Otherwise, do not call us traitors tomorrow if we stand against your radicals."

Investigation

To begin our investigation, we carefully analysed the video and noticed poor lip-syncing at several places, and the voice sounded robotic at intervals, raising suspicion that the clip might be AI-generated.

We checked the audio used in the video with the help of Aurigin.ai, a Swiss deep-tech company with an advanced audio deepfake detection engine. The tool indicated a 98% probability of the audio being AI-generated.

We also checked the video with the FTCN (2021) model via the Deepfake-o-meter from the University at Buffalo. The tool indicated over 99% probability of AI manipulation.

Vishvas News also reached out to the Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Trusted Information Alliance (TIA). The DAU team checked the video with the Hive AI Deepfake Detector tool. The tool indicated signs of AI manipulation on Owaisi's face in several parts of the video.

Vishvas News further shared the video with AI expert Azhar Machwe, who confirmed that the viral video is a deepfake, not authentic.

We performed a reverse image search of the video's keyframes, which led us to the original, full-length video livestreamed on ANI's YouTube channel on January 4, 2026. The section used for the deepfake can be seen after the 20-minute mark.

In the original clip, Owaisi actually said in Hindi: (Translation) "Ask Narendra Modi, this year, Modi gave 120 crore rupees to Bangladesh. Tell me. A grant of 120 crores and 1160 MW of energy goes to Bangladesh. And listen, Hindu brothers and sisters, in 10 years, Modi gave 8 billion dollars of credit to Bangladesh. And you abuse Owaisi? I was never against any religion, nor will I ever be."

Lastly, we scanned the profile of the user who had shared Owaisi's deepfake video and found that the Kashmiri Association of Australia page has 36,000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the claim being made on social media is false. Asaduddin Owaisi did not make any such statement in support of Pakistan, as shown in the video. This is a 'deepfake' video created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
