Fact Check: A social media post has gone viral with the claim that a young girl's family in Bihar is asserting that her image is featured on the iconic Parle G biscuit packet. Vishvas News found in its investigation the child depicted on the Parle G cover is, in fact, an illustration. This graphic has been a staple on the biscuit packet since the 1960s.

What Is The Viral Claim

Facebook user Payel Das shared the viral photo of a girl holding the Parle G Packet and wrote "A WOMAN FROM BIHAR HAS CLAIMED THAT HER DAUGHTER IS THE SAME GIRL FROM PARLE-G WRAPPER AND THE COMPANY USED HER DAUGHTER'S PICTURE WITHOUT ANY PROOF AND SHE HAS NOT RECEIVED EVEN A SINGLE RUPEE IN RETURN."

Investigation

To start our investigation, we performed a keyword search. We found a news report on storyboard18. The report mentions that the iconic Parle-G baby, the face of the brand for over six decades, is a widely recognised illustration created by Everest Advertising's creative department in the 1960s, specifically to appeal to children.

A news report on Economic Times published in October 2013 also confirmed that the iconic Parle-G baby is an illustration, not a real baby picture.

For more clarity, we spoke to Mayank Shah, Vice President, Parle G Products, who denied all these stories, saying: “The kid on the cover of Parle G is just an illustration made by Everest Creative in the 60s. This is not a photo of anyone. “

This photo was shared by a Facebook page Payel Das. This page has over 60,000 followers.

Conclusion: Claim that a real girl's image is featured on the Parle-G biscuit packet is false. The child depicted on the Parle-G cover is an illustration created by Everest Advertising in the 1960s, not a photograph of a real person.
