Fact Check: A picture of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi with controversial figure and wanted criminal Zakir Naik is viral on social media with the claim that they recently met in Malaysia. Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral claim is fake. This picture has been created with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

What is in the viral post?

Facebook user ‘S P Raj Yadav’ shared the viral post on September 10, with the caption, “Meeting terrorist Zakir Naik in Malaysia and getting information about AIDS disease.” View the archived version of the post here.

Investigation

Upon closer examination, we noticed several tell-tale signs of AI manipulation. For example, Zakir Naik's hand appears to have six fingers and an unnatural skin texture.

AI-detection tool 'Hive Moderation' indicated a 95% probability that the image was AI-generated.

Another tool, 'wasitai.com', also indicated AI-manipulation.

For confirmation, we contacted Congress national spokesperson Abhimanyu Tyagi. He told us, "Conspiracies are continuously being hatched against Rahul Gandhi by the BJP IT cell. The aforementioned post and photo are both false."

Facebook user 'S P Raj Yadav' is followed by 12,000 people.
