Fact Check: After the India–South Africa two-Test series, a three-match ODI series is currently underway. The first ODI was played in Ranchi on November 30, 2025, where India secured a 17-run victory. Ahead of the match, Team India players visited former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s home for dinner. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, however, was not present. Amid this, a social media post is going viral claiming that Dhoni criticised Gambhir, alleging that he has “ruined Indian cricket” through arbitrary decisions.
Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral claim is false. Dhoni has not made any such statement regarding Gautam Gambhir. A fake statement is being shared with a false claim.
What is going viral?
Facebook user 'Arjun Kumar' shared this post on November 24, 2025, and wrote in the caption, "In an interview, Dhoni said that ever since Gautam Gambhir became the coach of India, everything has not been going well in the Indian team. Gambhir does as he pleases and makes decisions as per his own wish, due to which Indian cricket is getting ruined. If any team is to defeat India, there is a need to change the coach."
Investigation
To verify the veracity of the viral claim, we searched Google using relevant keywords. Our search yielded no credible news reports supporting the claim.
A review of Dhoni’s official social media accounts also provided no evidence supporting the viral claim.
We contacted sports analyst, journalist, and commentator Syed Hussain for more information. He dismissed the viral statement as fake.
Finally, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the fake post. We found that the user has 29,000 followers. In his profile, the user identified himself as a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that Dhoni has not made any statement regarding Gautam Gambhir. A fake statement is being shared with a false claim.
