What’s Going Viral?
Instagram user 'officia_ap_sharma' shared the viral video (archive link) on July 19, 2025. The video read "Horrible flood in Pakistan."
Investigation:
To investigate the viral post, we analysed the video closely and found a few discrepancies. For instance, the trees appear to be swaying violently due to high wind, while the clothing of people on rooftops barely moves. Also, the movements of individuals, such as hand and head motions, appear stiff and robotic. These inconsistencies raised suspicions that the video might be AI-generated.
To verify further, we decided to analyse the video using the AI detection tools. Hive Moderation Tool gave a 99.9% probability that the video is AI-generated.
Another AI detection tool, 'Cantilux', detected an over 80% probability of AI use in the making of this video.
Another AI detection tool, 'Was It AI, ' also flagged it as likely AI-generated.
We also contacted AI expert Azahar Machwe, who confirmed that this video is AI-manipulated.
Current Flood Situation In Pakistan:
While the video is fake, Pakistan is indeed facing a serious flood situation. According to a July 21, 2025, report by 'One India' the "The death toll due to rains and flood-related incidents has reached 216, with 13 new deaths in the last 24 hours, Geo TV reported, citing Pakistan's disaster management authority."
