Fact Check: Ahead of the Bihar elections, a video of Home Minister Amit Shah is going viral on social media. In the clip, Shah is seen mentioning three terrorist attacks during the Modi government. Some users are sharing the video, claiming that Shah admitted failure by acknowledging these attacks.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found the viral video to be incomplete. In the original video, Shah criticised the UPA government, stating that during its tenure, terrorist attacks happened almost daily and there was no strong response. He contrasted this with the Modi government, which, according to him, responded strongly to the three major attacks since 2014.

What is the viral post?

Instagram user jay_sree_3678 (archive link) posted this incomplete video with the caption, "Ever since Narendra Modi took oath, three major attacks have taken place. Often, the truth comes to the tongue. Amit Shah."

Investigation

To verify the claim, Vishvas News conducted a Google search using relevant keywords, but did not find relevant results. Next, we conducted a reverse image search using screenshots from the viral video.

This led us to a longer version on the YouTube channel of Dainik Savera, uploaded on May 18, 2025, where Shah can be heard saying, "The work of securing our country was also done by our leader Narendra Modi ji. Before Modi ji became the Prime Minister in 2014, there were terrorist attacks across the country every other day for years. Terrorists used to come from Pakistan and kill our soldiers, our people, and go away. They used to cause bomb blasts. They used to do many types of conspiracies, but no answer was given. Since Narendra Modi ji took the oath, three big attacks have happened. The first attack happened in Uri. The second attack happened in Pulwama, and the third attack has just happened in Pahalgam. Pakistan-inspired terrorists dared to do it. But friends, Modi ji has responded to every attack with such strength that today the whole world is watching with surprise and Pakistan is experiencing it with fear."

A keyword search revealed that the video is from an event held on May 17, 2025, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The full video of this program was uploaded the same day on Shah's official YouTube channel. Watching the complete video makes it clear that the statement was aimed at contrasting the handling of terrorism by previous governments, not criticising the Modi government.

We also spoke to Dainik Jagran correspondent Narendra Sharma in Gandhinagar regarding the video. He confirmed that the video dates back to May 17, 2025, when Shah inaugurated several development projects in the city. He clarified that the viral clip is incomplete, as Shah was referring to three terror attacks while criticising previous governments, not pointing out shortcomings of the Modi government.

Lastly, we scanned the Instagram profile of the user ‘jay_sree_3678’, who shared the incomplete video with the false claim and found that the user has around 4000 followers.

Conclusion: In the investigation, Vishvas News found the viral claim to be misleading, as the viral video is incomplete. In the original footage, Amit Shah criticised the UPA government for frequent terror attacks and weak responses. He further stated that since the Modi government came to power, three major attacks had taken place, but each time the government’s response was strong and decisive.
