Fact Check: A disturbing video of two women being molested in broad daylight is viral on social media, with the claims that the incident happened in West Bengal. Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake. The video dates back to 2017 and shows an incident that occurred in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. At the time, all the accused were arrested and sent to jail.

What is in the viral post

Facebook user ‘Ajay Kumar Jaiswal’ shared this video on July 27, 2025, and claimed: “Do you want to see this all over India? This is West Bengal -- Jihadis molest a Hindu girl walking on the road in front of her mother, kidnap her -- why, because there is an anti-Hindu and pro-Muslim government there -- imagine the day when a pro-Muslim government is formed in the whole of India, a pro-Muslim government is formed at the centre ---- then? They are dividing us into castes and we are being cut apart.”

Investigation

To verify the viral post, we extracted key frames of the video and conducted a Google Lens search. The video appeared in several news reports from 2017. A video report published by India TV on its YouTube channel on May 28, 2017, confirmed that the incident took place in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

We also found a video report on The Times of India's YouTube channel, dated May 28, 2017, which confirmed that the incident occurred in Rampur.

As per news reports from May 2017, the incident occurred in the Tanda police station area of Rampur, where two women were harassed by a group of miscreants. After the video of the incident went viral, Rampur police swiftly registered an FIR based on the footage and arrested the accused.

This video had previously gone viral with the false claim. Vishvas News contacted Sanjay Mishra, the then editor-in-charge of Dainik Jagran, Moradabad, who confirmed that this incident occurred in Nagliya Kasamganj, alias Kuankheda village, under the jurisdiction of Tanda police station.
