Flight Bomb Threats: The issue of widespread disruption to airlines' services caused by hoax threat messages came up before a parliamentary committee on Wednesday as the civil aviation secretary informed MPs that the accused are being identified. Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam told the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture that investigators have gathered some information and are taking action, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, a minor boy, his father and another person have been summoned for questioning by Mumbai police in connection with recent bomb threats on social media that targeted three international fligts, officials said. The flights, all originating from Mumbai, received bomb threats on Monday.
One of the affected flights was en route to New York and the other two were headed to Muscat and Jeddah. While the New York-bound flight, operated by Air India, was diverted to New Delhi and rescheduled, the flights to Jeddah and Muscat, both belonging to IndiGo, faced hours-long delays as the planes were moved to the isolation bays for security checks.
According to the police, nothing suspicious was found on any of the planes. The bomb threat was issued via social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and the concerned handle is being verified. "On Monday, a bomb threat was posted on X for an Air India's Mumbai-New York flight and IndiGo's Mumbai to Muscat and Mumbai to Jeddah flights," Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"A team of Mumbai police reached Rajnandgaon on Monday. With the help of Rajnandgaon police, a notice was issued to a 17-year-old boy, who is a resident of the city, his father, and the person whose X account was used. They were summoned for questioning and further action to Mumbai," the official added. A case has been registered by Mumbai police against the X handle and an unidentified individual.
