A rapid rail project to connect Ghaziabad, Great Noida and Noida International Airport has been approved by the Uttar Pradesh government. The project, estimated to cost more than Rs 1,500 crore, will be completed in two phases by 2030. The rapid rail will also provide better connectivity to various sectors of Greater Noida and Noida, as well as facilitate travel to IGI Airport Delhi. 

The decision to approve the feasibility report prepared by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary DS Mishra on Tuesday. NCRTC was directed to prepare a detailed project report of the project. 

The cost of the rapid rail project will be shared among the Centre, state government and the rail authorities. The 20 per cent amount will be borne by the Centre, 50 per cent by the Uttar Pradesh government and the remaining 30 per cent will be invested by the rail authorities.

The rapid rail corridor will be about 72 kilometres long and will reach Noida International Airport via Ghaziabad, Greater Noida West, Surajpur, Ecotech, Kasna, Dankaur and Yamuna Authority sectors. The elevated corridor will have 16 stations and will operate at a speed of 160 kmph. 

The operation of Rapid Rail will provide a good transportation facility to the sectors of Ghaziabad and Greater Noida. Most sectors will be connected to it.
