Goa Carnival 2025: The annual Goa carnival will begin on February 28 and float parades will take place around the coastal state on March 1, according to an official. Cleeven Mathew Fernandes has been named this year's 'King Momo', the mythical head of the popular carnival float procession, the tourism department announced.
Fernandes, who is from Benaulim in South Goa, was chosen from among four applicants after a screening procedure.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik told PTI that the state's annual carnival celebration will take place from February 28 to March 4.
The spectacular curtain-raiser float parade will take place on February 28 in Porvorim (North Goa), near Panaji, followed by the float parades on March 1 in Panaji, he said.
The float procession in Panaji would be flagged off by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Naik added.
The float parades will take place in Margao (South Goa) on March 2, Vasco (South Goa) on March 3, and Mapusa and Morjim (both in North Goa) on March 4.
The Goa Carnival is more than simply a carnival; it's a huge celebration of life, culture, and rhythm. Every year, Goa bursts in a blaze of colour, music, dancing, and celebration, bringing together locals and visitors for a four-day celebration. The Goa Carnival 2025, which will take place from February 28 to March 4, promises to be bigger and better than before.
This carnival, based on Goa's 450-year-old Portuguese legacy, is a pre-Lenten festival that has become one of India's most recognisable cultural festivals.
It's the moment when King Momo, the monarch of festivals, says, "Eat, drink, and make merry!"—setting the tone for an eternal party.
