Goa Club Fire: At least 23 people died and over 50 got severely injured after a fire broke out at a nightclub in Arpora, North Goa. The preliminary report suggests that the victims include three to four tourists and 19 members of the club's staff. While talking to the reporters, Goa DGP Alok Kumar stated that the incident occurred around 12 am on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. He further stated that the ambulance and fire brigades were rushed to the spot immediately, adding that all the bodies have been recovered. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that a probe has been launched, adding that the injured were receiving treatment at Goa Medical College.

The Goa police chief stated that a probe has been launched into the matter and strict action will be taken based on the findings. "An unfortunate incident occurred in a restaurant-cum-club in Arpora. At 12.04 am, the police control room received information about a fire, and the police, fire brigade, and ambulances were rushed to the spot," DGP Kumar was quoted as saying by ANI.

"The fire is now under control, and all the bodies have been recovered. The total death count is 23...The police will investigate the cause of this incident, and we will take action based on the findings," he added. While describing the incident as a "painful day" for the state, Chief Minister Sawant stated that the exact cause of the fire will be revealed soon, adding that those responsible behind the incident will face harsh action.

"Today is a very painful day for all of us in Goa. A major fire incident at Arpora has taken the lives of 23 people. I am deeply grieved and offer my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families in this hour of unimaginable loss. I visited the incident site and have ordered an inquiry into this incident. The investigation will examine the exact cause of the fire and whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed. Those found responsible will face the most stringent action under the law- any negligence will be dealt with firmly," CM Sawant stated in his post on X (formerly Twitter).

Apart from this, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the incident. PM Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
