Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday held a press conference over the deadly fire at a night club that claimed 25 lives on the intervening night of December 6 and 7. He said that the fire was caused by the bursting of some electrical fire crackers inside the club.

He added that the number of causalties were high because of the limited exits. He said, "According to the preliminary inquiry, the fire broke out due to the bursting of some electrical fire crackers inside the club. Some people could come out, but others could not, due to which they lost their lives. A complete inquiry is being done, and a report will be recieved within a week. Suspensions will be issued to some people today itself... The concerned officers will be punished as well..."

Speaking about the police action, CM Sawant said that four people have been arrested and other clus of Romeo Lane have been sealed.

"At present, four people have been arrested... We have already sealed the other club of Romeo Lane. The government does not promote any illegal nightclub," he said.

Goa DGP Alok Kumar was also present with the CM during the press conference. the DGP said, "The arrested persons include Rajiv Modak, Chief General Manager; Vivek Singh, General Manager; Rajveer Singhania, Bar Manager; and Priyanshu Thakur, Gate Manager... FIR has been registered against the owners, Saurav Luthra and Gaurav Luthra..."

CM Sawant said that club owners Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra would also be arrested soon.

The Goa CM has ordered a magisterial probe and directed state chief secretary Dr V Candavelou and Director General of Police Alok Kumar to identify and act against the guilty government officials.

Sawant has held a series of meetings with high-ranking state officials, including from the home department to review the situation following the tragic fire.
