Two people died after being exposed to poisonous gas while cleaning an STP tank at Eldeco Society in Sector 150 under the Knowledge Park Kotwali area of Greater Noida on Saturday night.

Sanitation worker Shashikant Sharma (40), a resident of Karauli, Rajasthan, fainted while cleaning the tank. The society's security guard, Akash, a resident of Ithari in Firozabad, entered the tank to rescue him but also fainted after being exposed to the gas.

Both Declared Dead

After receiving the information, the Noida police and fire service teams reached the spot, rescued both men and rushed them to the hospital. However, doctors declared them dead during treatment.

The police have conducted the inquest and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Further action is being taken in the case.

A similar incident was reported in June, when three people died after allegedly inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a septic tank at a factory in Delhi's Mundka Industrial Area.

According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at Mundka Police Station reporting that three persons had fallen into a septic tank while it was being cleaned.

On reaching the spot, police found that Marwah Printers had hired a man identified as Neeraj, a resident of Nangloi, to clean a septic tank inside the factory premises in Gali No. 1 of the Mundka Industrial Area.

"This afternoon, a PCR call was received at PS Mundka. On reaching the place of the incident, it was learnt that Marwah Printers had hired one Neeraj to clean the septic tank situated inside the factory premises. Neeraj, along with two others, was cleaning the tank when this incident took place," ANI quoted a police official.

The three deceased were identified as Arun, Sandeep and Chand, all residents of Indrajheel in Sultanpuri, police said.

Their bodies were recovered from the septic tank and shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
