Several parts of Gujarat witnessed light to moderate rain on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rainfall and a significant drop in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next five days. The unseasonal rain brought relief from the high temperatures, while it also damaged standing crops in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli and Gandhinagar districts, officials stated.
The IMD noted that light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms occurred in isolated areas of Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Gandhinagar. The department predicted heavy rain at isolated places across the state till May 6, followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 7 and 8.

The IMD said the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely to fall from 39 degrees Celsius to 35–36 degrees Celsius in the coming week, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 25 degrees Celsius. Vadodara, which had been recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, is also likely to see a dip to 35–36 degrees Celsius.
Districts including Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Narmada, and Surat are expected to receive heavy rain on May 7. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is very likely across most districts from Monday.
The meteorological department warned that the northwest Arabian Sea near the Gujarat coast is expected to remain rough, with high waves and wind speeds reaching 50–55 kmph.
