Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Dera Sacha Sauda chief, walked out of the Sunaria jail in Rohtak after he was granted a 40-day parole. Singh has been serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples. This is the 15th parole since his conviction in 2017. As per Gurmeet Ram Rahim advocate Jitender Khurana, during the parole time, Singh will stay at his Sirsa-headquartered Dera. On multiple occasions, Sikh organisations, such as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, have criticised the relief to Singh.
Timeline Of His Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s Parole
-Last year in August, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was granted a 40-day parole. Prior to this, he was allowed a 21-day furlough in April 2025 and a 30-day parole in January 2025.
-In 2024, just days ahead of Haryana Assembly Election, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was granted a 20-day parole on October 1.
-A 21-day furlough was granted by the court In August 2024.
-Singh got a three-week furlough starting February 7, 2022. This was just two weeks ahead of the Punjab Assembly Election.
-Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others were acquitted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in May 2024 in the case involving the murder of the sect's former manager, Ranjit Singh in 2022. The court termed the investigations "tainted and sketchy" overturning a special CBI court order.
-As per the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his co-accused were guilty of hatching a criminal conspiracy.
-On many occasions when he came out of the prison, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has stayed at Dera's ashram in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat.
-The Dera, based in Sirsa, has a substantial following across Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and several other states. Within Haryana, it enjoys considerable influence in districts such as Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Hisar.
