Gurugram New Traffic Rule: The Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCP) Traffic in Gurugram has issued new guidelines, directing the personnel not to issue challans (fines) to vehicle owners at night. This decision came in response to the rising number of complaints received during night-time vehicle checks.
According to the letter issued by Virendra Vij, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Traffic, the traffic inspectors have been ordered to ensure that no vehicles are stopped or challans issued at night. The DCP also added that if it is absolutely necessary to issue a challan as per the Motor Vehicles Act, the concerned gazetted officer or the DCP himself must be informed, and permission must be obtained before proceeding.

"The orders should be strictly followed. In case of negligence and carelessness, strict departmental action will be taken against the concerned traffic police officer as per rules with immediate effect," the letter stated.
Why New Traffic Guidelines Are Being Enforced In Gurugram?
The decision to ease night-time challan enforcement is aimed at addressing the inconvenience faced by the public during their late-night travels. The DCP acknowledged that the traffic police personnel deployed at night had been unnecessarily stopping vehicles and issuing challans, causing problems for the common people and drivers.
"The job of traffic personnel deployed at night was to help the common people and drivers and to arrange safe routes in case of a road accident," the letter read. It further stated that the injured persons should be immediately admitted to the nearest trauma centre and accident-hit vehicles should be promptly removed from the main road to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The DCP's directive was taken amid rising complaints regarding the traffic police's behaviour during night-time vehicle checks.

Gurugram New Traffic Guideline: Strict Action Against Drink And Drive
Virendra Vij has also mentioned that the traffic police will continue to maintain strict vigilance against drunk drivers at night to prevent accidents. Additionally, the traffic police in Gurugram often conduct campaigns against drunk driving several times a week, particularly at night. However, the latest order from the DCP suggests that the focus will now be on providing assistance to commuters and ensuring smooth traffic movement, rather than issuing challans.
