Jagran Correspondent | Gurugram: The Gurugram police on Thursday night shot at five shooters from the notorious Nandal gang in Sushant Lok Phase 2, killing four and leaving one severely injured. The firing occured at around 11:00 pm. Significantly, this encounter marks the first time in the history of Gurugram that the police have neutralised four criminals in a single shootout.
What Happened At The Site?
The two parties had fired at least 40 rounds of gunshots during the operation. Three police officials also suffered severe injuries during the shootout. They were identified as SI Sunil, Constable Manjeet and Constable Shamsher; all three from the Sector 40 crime branch have been admitted to Medanta Hospital.

The police officials claimed that they intercepted the miscreants who had arrived at the area to target the residence of the son of SGT University's founder. Since 1995, Gurugram has witnessed many gang wars where cops have gunned down two to three criminals. This marks the first time when the Gurugram police have shot down four criminals at once.
Former ADGP Resham Pal Singh believes that since 1990, such an incident has not happened in Gurugram or Haryana, where four people were encountered together.

The police said that they gunned down four shooters in the encounter. Of them, one was from Tohana in Fatehabad, and three were from Rohtak. The fifth shooter who suffered injuries is a resident of Nuh. A thorough investigation is being conducted into their criminal backgrounds and gang affiliations. The FSL team has also taken possession of the recovered weapons.
How Did The Cops Execute The Operation?
The cops claim that Deepak Nandel, a dreaded gangster, demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from businessman Vishal Berry. Berry has been receiving threat messages for the past week. To nab the culprits, police officials were deployed in civil clothes outside the business man's premises.

During the shootout, Berry, along with his wife, and domestic helpers were present in the house. As the firing started, the officials deployed inside the house informed the control room. 
Sharing details of the operation, ACP Sadar Dharamveer Singh said, "This evening, the control room received information that some armed miscreants were roaming in a car. The crime team searched in this regard. Meanwhile, these miscreants barged into the home of a prominent businessman, who had been receiving threats and extortion calls from a gangster based abroad, and opened fire."
Upon receiving the information, teams from the Sector 40 Crime Branch and Crime Branches 17 and 39, already present nearby, sprang into action. The three teams surrounded the shooters from three sides.
At first, the Crime Branch team warned the shooters to surrender; however, they didn't stop. Consequently, the police responded with crossfire.The five suffered injuries and were admitted to the Medanta Hospital. Four of them were declared dead on arrival.
A large cache of illegal weapons has been recovered from the site. A heavy police presence remains deployed in Sushant Lok as forensic teams examine the area and further investigation is carried out.
