The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is ready to put forward a proposal to build five underpasses along the Old Gurugram Metro route between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City. The proposal, with an estimated cost of Rs 550 crore, will be presented to CM Nayab Singh Saini during the authority's board meeting.
If approved, the authority will initiate the process by conducting feasibility studies and preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for each of the six sites.
The underpasses will be built to ease traffic congestion in the Old Gurugram. As per reports, all six underpasses will be built in the second phase of the metro construction. The construction of these underpasses would be undertaken by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). The GMRL will construct these underpasses simultaneously with the metro project.
The GMDA is planning simultaneous construction to save time and funds, which would pave way early completion of work.
It mjust be noted that these five underpasses will be in addition to the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass and the Umang Bhardwaj Chowk flyover. The Bakhtawar Chowk and Umang Bharadwaj Chowk projects have already been approved by the government.
Where will the underpasses be built?
The new locations where underpasses would be constructed in the second phase are:
-The first underpass would be built on Railway Road (Sector 3A, Sector 4, and 5 Chowk).
-The second underpass would start from the main road of Sector 3 and Sector 5 and will go to Sheetla Mata Mandir via Bhagat Singh Chowk.
-The third underpass would be built at Krishna Chowk from Bajghera Road towards Sector 5, which will be one-way.
-The fourth underpass would be built at Rejangla Chowk.
-The fifth underpass would be built at the junction of Sushil Aima Road and Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road towards Udyog Vihar.
