Gurugram Rains:  Gurugram saw waterlogging on Sunday in various locations and stretches due to heavy overnight rains. The areas that were impacted included CRPF Chowk, Mata Mandir Road, Sector 21/22 Cut, Mahavir Chowk, Hanuman Chowk, Tulip Garden, Khandsa Road, Rajiv Chowk Underpass, Narsinghpur, Khushal Chowk, Vatika Chowk, Sector 46/47 Red Light, Bakhtawar Chowk, Bilaspur Chowk, ISKCON Temple, Badshahpur, Shani Mandir, Sikanderpur Power House, JMD Megapolis, Khandsa Underpass, Kanahi Chowk, HUDA City Center, and Golf Course Road, among other places.

A traffic police official said, “To ensure that drivers do not face any problems during their journey due to waterlogged roads, cranes were deployed at designated locations to help remove stranded vehicles. They also helped remove broken-down vehicles from the water and moved them to safe locations on the roadside. The roads were cleared by cutting and removing fallen trees and branches using saws, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.”

Many people in Sushant Lok and other communities reported that following the rain, water had seeped into their homes. Videos revealed the living rooms' interiors to be ankle-deep in water, destroying the furnishings.

Sudakshina Laha, general secretary of Sushant Lok 2 and 3, said, “We have discussed with the GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority) and the MCG (Municipal Corporation of Gurugram) steps to alleviate this (waterlogging) over the last two years, and only small measures are taken. But this is not the solution. No concerted effort has been seen from the agencies and no accountability exists.”

“The GMDA has a major role to play here because our blocks are adjacent to Golf Course Extension Road and Dharam Marg which are the two major responsibilities of the GMDA and because of lack of proper drainage and breaks in the footpaths, all the water is coming inside our blocks. The GMDA’s overall functioning seems to have gone down over the last couple of months. We even had a GMDA residents advisory council meeting two weeks ago,” said Laha.

Wazirabad tehsil received 64mm of rain on Sunday morning, compared to 53mm in Gurugram tehsil up till 8.30 AM.
