Gurugram: A shocking incident has come to light from Gurugram, where a police constable used government resources to stalk a woman. The constable reportedly stalked the woman in his official vehicle and accessed her personal information by running her car number through a tracing system.

Following the incident, a case has been registered against the police constable. The woman later posted a video on her Instagram account, describing the incident, which has gone viral on the internet, sparking outrage on social media.

Woman Shares Video On Instagram Detailing The Incident

The woman identified as Shiwangi Peswani is a social media influencer with around 200,000 followers. According to Peswani, the incident occurred around 12:30 AM on the night of September 14-15, while she was driving home.

In the viral video, she alleged that a police control room (PCR) vehicle followed her for part of the journey, but did not stop there.

Peswani received a comment on one of her Instagram reels after 15 minutes of reaching home. The comment was received from an account named ‘Simran Chopra,’ believed to be a woman, asking, “Ma'am, are you the same person who came to RD Colony 15 minutes ago?”

The person, on the other end, revealed shocking details, including which gates Peswani had used to enter her locality and the car she was driving. “I initially thought it was a female fan who had noticed me and sent the message on one of my reels,” Peswani said.

When Peswani asked how the person had spotted her so late at night, the reply came in Hindi, saying “Police have really sharp eyes; let’s continue this conversation in direct messages (DM).”

“I was shocked. That's when I recalled that a PCR van was hovering around me. I suspected it was that cop, so I messaged that Insta handle asking who it was and why the messages. That person replied, ‘I am the policeman who was sitting in a PCR, and saw you, really liked you, so I traced your details through the car number.’ He said he found me thereafter on Instagram,” Peswani added.

“If I’m facing this at nearly 50, imagine what young girls must go through,” Peswani said, stressing that she will not rest until the police constable faces appropriate consequences.

Gurugram Police Reacts

Her video on Instagram detailing the incident has gone viral, sparking outrages on the social media. Replying to her video on X (formerly Twitter), Gurugram Police said, “Legal action has already been initiated, including registration of a First Information Report (FIR). Simultaneously, departmental proceedings have also been set into motion. It is further made clear that the matter shall be pursued with utmost seriousness.”

Sandeep Turan, Public Relations Officer, Gurugram police said that immediate action was taken once the information was received. “Orders were given for a thorough probe, after which an FIR was filed. We are checking whose profile was used to initiate contact with the influencer and how he obtained her details,” he said.

Following the incident, the police constable was suspended, Turan said, emphasising that such misconduct will not be tolerated.

Peswani approached the Cyber Crime (East) Police Station on September 16 and filed a written complaint agianst the police constable submitting screenshots of the comments and messages, Hindustan Times sources reported.
