In a fresh petition to the court of Civil Judge senior division, the head priest of Acharya Ved Vyas Peeth temple, Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas, has filed a suit seeking worship of Srinagar Gauri and other deities in the cellar of Gyanvapi mosque and appointment of the District Magistrate or any other suitable person as the receiver of the cellar in the southern side of the Gyanvapi complex in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. 

Vyas's Lawyer Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi who filed the plea, said that the judge fixed the next hearing for Tuesday. Just a few minutes after filing of the suit, another lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain filed an application before the court  of district judge to direct for transfer of the suit to his court, mentioning that it will be deemed fit in the interest of justice. 

The priest claimed that the worship of deities was performed within the cellar of the southern side of the building till 1993 and made the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (AIMC), the defendant in his plea.

Vyas said that his ancestor and priest Vyasji was restrained from entering the barricaded area and thus performance of rituals and other ceremonies in the cellar was stopped since that time. 

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Committee challenging the maintainability of a plea seeking "restoration" of a temple at the Gyanvapi mosque site

The order was passed by Chief Justice Printinkar Diwakar following a request from the counsel for the petitioner.

The AIMC has challenged the maintainability of a plea filed before a Varanasi court in which the petitioner sought the restoration of a temple at the Gyanvapi mosque site, adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
