Haryana Assembly Election 2024 is all set to be held on October 5 and the results will be announced on October 8. Parties have started releasing the list of candidates for the polls. Meanwhile, Savitri Jindal, the mother of BJP's Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal and a former contender for a party nomination for the Haryana Assembly elections, submitted her nomination as an Independent candidate for the Hisar seat on Thursday.

Savitri Jindal has been listed as the richest woman in the country this year by Forbes India. She has a net worth of USD 29.1 billion.

On the final day for filing nominations, 74-year-old Savitri Jindal, the widow of prominent industrialist OP Jindal, joined the race as an Independent candidate, competing against Haryana Minister and current MLA Kamal Gupta from Hisar.

After filing her nomination, she said, "I have pledged to serve Hisar for its development and transformation. The people of Hisar are my family and Om Prakash Jindal had established my relationship with this family."

"The Jindal family has always served Hisar. I am fully dedicated to living up to the expectations of the people and maintaining their trust," said Savitri Jindal.

When the BJP nominated Kamal Gupta for the Hisar Assembly seat, reporters asked Savitri Jindal whether running against the ruling party might be considered an act of rebellion.

"It won't be considered so. I had only campaigned for my son (Naveen Jindal in the Lok Sabah polls). I have not taken any membership (of the BJP)," she had said.

Savitri Jindal was elected as an MLA from the Hisar seat on two occasions. She first represented Hisar in the Haryana Assembly in 2005 as a Congress MLA. She was reelected from the Hisar seat in 2009 and was appointed a minister in the Singh Hooda government in 2013. In March of this year, she left the Congress party, following her son Naveen Jindal's departure from the party and subsequent move to the BJP.
